Hotel Accommodates First Super Efficient RenoXtra boiler

Recent years have seen businesses large and small under increasing pressure to reduce their carbon footprint as rising fuel prices eat away at profits and governments strive to meet ambitious COČ emissions targets. Hotels are no exception; premises are large and their residents expect the luxury of perfect temperature control and instant hot water at all times of the day and night.

At Collingwood Hotel in Great Yarmouth, an inefficient heating/hot water system and new government regulations meant the time had come to upgrade and take advantage of the latest energy-saving boiler technology. Aware of Johnson & Starley's market leading range of high efficiency boilers, Mrs Olink approached them for advice and was delighted to find the Collingwood Hotel could be one of the first buildings to install a RenoXtra high efficiency combination condensing boiler.

The RenoXtra offers all the efficiency and reliability of the Reno range of condensing boilers with the addition of a gas saver module which pre-heats water destined for the hot taps. The module uses a passive flue heat exchanger (which contains no moving parts and doesn't require any power to operate) to condense water from flue gases into a condensate store. Incoming cold water is then passed through a heat exchanger in the store and another in the flue before being passed to the main boiler for final heating. As energy is reclaimed from waste gases fuel efficiency is improved

During Testing to BSEN 13203, the RenoXtra achieved estimated additional gas savings of 11% during summer-type operation, and up to 40% in winter (off DHW gas consumption) when greater central heating demand produces more condensate enabling higher rates of heat transfer and heat recovery. This makes the RenoXtra possibly the most efficient combination boiler on the market today.

Previously, the customer had electric heating and gas boiler to heat a large store of hot water which was costing her a fortune. The new RenoXtra offers the Collingwood Hotel significant fuel savings of over 30%" says installer Gary Burrows of Kent Heating Ltd. "We were very pleased with the design service provided by Johnson & Starley, and the installation of the RenoXtra was straightforward as a wall jig was supplied allowing the easy-to-handle parts to be assembled on-site".

Mrs Olink commented: "We have had much cheaper bills since installing the RenoXtra and our water meter bills are greatly reduced therefore giving us savings there as well. I have been telling people about my wonderful (Johnson & Starley) combination boiler and I'll have one again when I next move"
